Basic Malware Removal Instructions for Windows

These instructions will help you clean your computer of viruses, spyware, hijackware, malware, adware, rootkits, and most infections (or malicious or dangerous software). If you think your computer is infected with a virus or some other malicious software (or know it for a fact but cannot get rid of it using whatever security program you have installed even after updating it and running a Full Scan with every option checked), follow these instructions including, if needed, getting expert help (which is sometimes the best way to start depending on the type of infection, how it's affecting your system, your level of expertise, and your comfort with doing things that may be pushing the limits of your knowledge or struggling with procedures where you're not sure  if you're making things better or worse).

Disclaimer: This guide is intended to be used as a self-help guide. It is not a substitute for professional malware removal.  I have no certifications in malware-removal.  While I've avoided the seriously advanced methods, these are all at your own risk and I assume no responsibility or liability for what occurs.  It's entirely up to you whether to use anything here and you do so at your own risk.

These instructions are constantly updated, so don't print them out but instead bookmark the site and check back whenever they might be needed so you have the most current information and products.
